On a Mission to End Diabetes
Diabetes is the seventh-leading cause of death in the United States. The Diabetes Group at Sanford Research aims to fight this public health threat by researching type 1 and gestational diabetes.
We have a special interest in type 1 diabetes with The Sanford Project, an initiative to cure type 1 diabetes – the type that typically affects children.
We plan to end type 1 diabetes through discovery in three key areas:
- 自身免疫:我停止mmune system’s attack on the body’s insulin-producing beta cells
- Prevention: identifying children at high risk and intervening before the onset of autoimmunity
- Regeneration: harnessing advancements in regenerative medicine to stimulate repair mechanisms and reboot insulin-producing beta cells
Our comprehensive strategy promises faster progress toward improving diabetes patients’ lives.
